THE SHEKHAWATI PROJECT

The Shekhawati Project is a Franco-Indian organization created in Fatehpur in 2016 by a group of experts in the conservation/restoration of historic monuments and lovers of Indian art. We wish to contribute to saving the unique architectural and pictorial heritage of Shekhawati:

Cécile Charpentier
Head of the project, an expert in the conservation and restoration of paintings 
A Franco-American, she has a museology degree from the École du Louvre and a Master's Degree in the Conservation and Restoration of cultural artefacts (University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne). An admirer of Indian art, she is in charge of major restoration programmes in different parts of the world, acting as main contractor for French historic monuments.

Jean Pouvelle
TSP President. Professor of English and historian
A Frenchman and a specialist of Shekhawati, he has worked with Ilay Cooper and has published the French version of the latter's reference book, The Painted Towns of Shekhawati (Les Villes Peintes du Shekhawati, Prakash Books, Delhi, 2017). His knowledge of local iconography will be a useful contribution to the project.

Namita Jaspal 
Ambassador for the Indian Division. Painting conservation and restoration expert, specialising in frescoes

An Indian, she has a degree in chemistry and botany from Delhi University and is specialised in the conservation of cultural heritage. Thanks to her expertise in the field of Indian heritage, she has been in charge of numerous conservation projects in India. She has recently supervised the restoration of the frescoes in the Golden Temple of Amritsar.

Anthony Pontabry
Painting conservation and restoration expert, specialising in frescoes
A Franco-Italo-American conserver-restorer of paintings, Anthony is an expert in conservation techniques of the constituent elements of frescoes, and a conserver-restorer of wall paintings. A graduate of the « Istituto Centrale per il Restauro » in Rome, he will bring his know-how to the training workshops at the haveli.

Giovanna Carravieri 
Painting conservation and restoration expert, specialising in frescoes
An Italian, she has a degree in the conservation and restoration of paintings from Cremona College in Italy. She also has a Master's Degree in Art History from La Sapienza University in Rome and a Master's Degree in Art History (Paris IV Sorbonne). She has worked on the conservation of numerous frescoes in Rome, Florence and the Vatican.
