The Castle of Lunac
I am a small defensive castle of the XIII th century… A Lunac, a few leagues from the royal fortress of Najac, Rouergue and Aveyron. I depended on the count of Toulouse, and belonged to several Co-lords.
I defended the small village of Lunac (Lusnaco) and its inhabitants, in this region of Rouergue where so many bastide, often royal, flourished in this very rough and "belligerent" period of the Middle Ages. Several CO-Lords held this place, noble but also Bourgeois: like the families Faramond, Morlhon, Combelles, Selgues, Valletta, Ysson, Audiguier, Montlauzeur and some others…
In the XVIII th century, I pass into the hands of a single nobleman: Montlauzeur, and then passes from Castle Defense to mere "residence". In 1785 with the family of Chazelles I then enlarged a new wing to house the Offspring....
In the XIX th century, a commoner, the notary Graner buys me and sets up his study. I then go into various hands.
The late 19th century castle (and the "Lodge"-later served as a stall on fair days)
In the XX th century, I only serve as a second home..... To finish "alone, uninhabited" for decades... until 2005.
January 2005 (Marie-Chantal and Michel discover me)
In the XXI th century, in 2005, with Marie-Chantal and Michel Revalor, two enthusiasts of old stones, I reborn...
They love human contact... so they will create bed and breakfast. All these many hosts (nearly 2000 to date) bring much to my new life: small chatter and great discussions, aperitifs shared by the pool, even an experience of spiritualism,... we confront all social classes, all Trades, all ages... Quite surprising young people, and less young.... lovers of old stones... We keep in touch with some of these hosts... and then there are those who come back for several weeks and this for more than ten years…
Generally these are wonderful and enriching encounters... Marie-Chantal and Michel are welcome in Quebec, Canada, Manhattan, Catalonia, England, or several corners of France...
The castle: in 2010 after the first works of Marie-Chantal and Michel
On this day of 2018 :
I am flanked by a round tower. To the north (staircase with screw) surmounted by a bartizan, openings with simple mullions, hydrants and a occulus at the top of the tower. The old double-mulled window, in the north, has just been re-created. And the tip of the tower is a small circular piece with magnificent framing, ideal for artist's workshop, or for lovers of the sky and the Stars
I also have two small dependencies on the north side :
* The oldestCalled "Lodge of Justice", is a small building where lords and prayers made low and middle Justice. Glazed: It would be ideal as a showcase for painter, Artisan Potter or jewellery maker...
Lodge of Justice with its old well (possibility to classify it)
* and a newer one (1835) : the "Bakery "(below, to the left of my entrance) is a larger building, with 2 bread ovens in a beautiful vault, and 2 rooms upstairs, easy to imagine in a small gite full of charm…
Presentation of the project :
Due to important water infiltration, it is necessary to cover the terrace : From my "advanced" South, inspired by "dryers or sécadous": buildings typical of the immediate campaign. It is a timber frame on wood pillars and semi-pyramidal cover. Covered in slate of the region, or possibly shingles: depending on the amount of your donations. First emergency : Stop the big water seeps, Temporarily, pending the result of the collection. Trials have been implemented but nothing really effective in the long run. It is necessary to know that this terrace has become indispensable to our guests : Meals or aperitifs, discussions and shares. For some: writing (novels/thesis), reading, parts of cards... It is a friendly and meeting place. And breakfasts are served as early as spring !!!!
Michel in 2008 and 3 of his grandchildren on this famous terrace, located on the third level in relation to
the garden floor. Amazing view of the surrounding countryside.
Facades East and South, en 2005, and after works in 2010
The terrace and its 2 gargoyles
Office Michel Following the floods: walls under left and right gargoyles and under cracks between the Mur master of the castle and the terrace (same condition of the 4 walls).
What will be the purpose of this collection ?
Bearings 1 : €5,000 really Urgent For the degradation to be halted: to temporarily patch and zinguer the crack between the terrace and the wall to make a barrage of water that only asks to go deeper... then plug it under. Same problem with gargoyles: non-effective sealing, seepage is important there too.
Level 2 : €15,000: Order for Wood.
Level 3 : €20,000: Control of slate and glazing
Level 4 : €30,000: Green light for roofers-scaffolding and crane installation
Level 5 : €35,000: We can finally start the work, sum together!
Level 6 : €40,000: The objective is achieved, it remains only to re-join the outer stone walls of the advance, which will effectively protect the interior coatings (from the office) before redoing them.
In the event that this objective is not achieved It is obvious that the project is cancelled! So it will be necessary to keep plugging in every time that is needed while waiting for a new idea more economical and fatally less aesthetic for the castle.... or an opportunity, but Which? or leave it to a possible future owner....
In the event that this objective is passed, which would be fabulous, This sum will be used to restore the stairs to the VIS and re-join the interior and interior walls of the tower.

Who are we ?
Michel, architect, fond of old stones, found his vocation in the old bed, in the restoration of old Mas in Provence, and Marie - Chantal, his wife, also and to his contact, caught the virus of the old, the past, the old stones... his profession, another vocation: teacher of young children and director of Crèche.
Retired in 2004, they sell their house of Provence (old ruin restored for 17 years), after which they realise their dream: to invest and to bring life to a castle (to be restored preferably) in Aveyron-they discover me then, abandoned of all life, uninhabited from Decades! -What seduced them is my entrance north, on the small village side, and of course my South side (south facing), giving directly to the countryside, with breathtaking view on our meadows, our woods, our fields, our mountains and valleys... Breathtaking view as we are within the perimeter of protection thanks to our church St Jean-Baptiste whose choir is classified, so no construction on the horizon in the future !
- And with my interior, a mixture of style late XIX °, early XX ° and years 50, they saw there the opportunity to satisfy their passion: the restoration of heritage. They re-brought to light all that was of period, they made their original dimensions to the pieces, re-discovered the ceilings and floors in chestnut and oak, handed the chimneys as close to their past, remade Lime plasters, improved the Openings.....
Marie-Chantal and Michel Have invested everything in my purchase and my restoration, they have, apart from a small retreat, only the incomes of the bed and breakfast... a loan reimbursement almost equal to their retirement, for more than four years (namely that the loan was for my Restoration). The incomes of the bed and breakfasts do not allow to do new big jobs, and this crucial problem of sealing my South terrace is bothering them a lot....
Marie - Chantal (True Aveyron) is 71 years old, and Michel (Provençal), 87 years! 14 years ago, when they decided to adopt me They were 57 years old and 73 years old. ILS have returned my 1600 m² of land with their own hands to create a park, they mounted walls, scraped my plaster or cement coatings, cleaned my ceilings and floors, broke my false ceilings, passed lime milks on the walls, laid tiles and mounted or shot my CLO Isons, built the basin (current swimming pool), created an external drainage, they will rest old paving stones to restore the "Calade"... unfortunately what used to take 2 days, now takes at least the week... but for the roof of the terrace it takes Specialized companies, scaffolding. And a crane of 20 m in the north, the south facade, it, measures 26 m... So we really need your help !
Motto of Marie-Chantal and Michel : We are not owners of anything, we are only tenants and only passing..... so we leave to our successors, for example, the care to re-open the Underground..... The entrance is clear, to them to continue.... namely that
The help provided is of course For me That you do it and For the Heritage, for future owners,
for the Hosts From around the world Which pass to Lunac, for Visitors Who come knocking for an
impromptu visit, and perhaps for yourself soon... For some it's spending time off, weekends or a night at
the castle at a decent rate, it's a dream... others prefer to invest a castle to make it life: live or make a
museum, or simply save it from abandonment and a next heap of ruins.... To simply make us remember
the pass and make us dream of knights and Princesses...
