The building to save is a thatched cottage farmhouse 7 m wide and 20m long. It belonged to an agricultural complex during the beginning of the century like most hamlets located in Eure et Loir (28). The houses of Beauce are originally built with materials found on site (limestone, brick, flint, barn, thatch)
Over the years, all buildings have been fragmented and different owners have succeeded one another.
However, with time, the roof has aged and it is definitely time to renovate it.The moss that is usually removed manually, is remained in place for the moment and helps to protect the whole of it.

In 2014, I totally fell in love with this thatched cottage in the middle of the countryside, I started by redesign the garden in a natural ‘mixed border’ style, but now it is time to renovate the roof. Indeed, regular subculturing are no longer enough to be kept weathertight, so during high wind, thatch flies away, leaving the toeboard structure naked.
I really desire to restore and keep the thatched roof because it is a natural lagging. The house is also part of a rural habitat surrounded by fields, you can see it from the road. From a handmade viewpoint, this project will allow to request and maintain the thatched how know.
There is 3 levels of 6000 €, 11000 € and 23000 €.
I afford myself this renovation project, and it is impossible to get any official financial assistance because my thatched cottage is a textbook case, I should explore other way to get help.
Besides the improvement of the insulating comfort, off-water and give a better overall appearance, here is the description of work:
Firstly:
It is necessary to install the site, to set up scaffolding to be able to work in height in safety.
It will be necessary to build fagots to evacuate the old thatch more easily.
The structure will be checked from all angles to ensure quality renovation.
The windowsill will be deposited as well as the roofing.
Secondly:
The sealing of the two chimneys will be checked.
It is planned to install a 25cm offset at the brushed banks for woodwork protection and give an esthetic improvement to the entire farmhouse.
Thirdly:
Overlay the roof with reed, lay a bed of cement on the roof
Installation of new spandrels at the edge of the windows, construction of a festoon with reed excess to accommodate the ground
Cleaning the site, disposal of waste.
